Description / Goals Business Intelligence (BI) is one of the leading topics in applied information science. The business perspective on data becomes more and more necessary for daily decision making on the one hand and opens a variety of challenges for software- and database developers on the other hand. This lecture unchains the facings of BI from a practical point of view including the following topics:
  • History of BI
  • The role of data in BI Systems
  • Requirements of BI users (decision makers, management, developers)
  • Usage of KPI Systems
  • Data visualization
The hands on development of an exemplary BI system from scratch is a core topic in this lecture. Together we will develop a simple analytical tool (hopefully based on your own requirements). We will start with simple analytical tasks in Excel, identify different data areas, model needed data structures (on relational and multidimensional base). The journey on BI results in a running project giving an solid overview on the topics of BI.

The lecture is held by experienced trainers working on various areas of software development (system architects, database developers, BI consultants). Their practical experience allow a tight binding of theoretical basics with practical experience out of projects of each size and professional focus
